Overcoming Difficult Trials

The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
He enables me to tread on the heights.

Dear Reader,
If you have not already read this book, you really need to. I am rereading it for the 4th or 5th time. It speaks to me in a different way every time since every time I read it I am in a different place in my life’s journey.

It seems like God wants me to share more about His amazing love as I was led to a part in the book that speaks of it. I will share passages of this wonderful book by Hannah Hurnard in this post.

“The High Places and the hind’s feet do not refer to heavenly places after death, but are meant to be the glorious experience of God’s children here and now-if they will follow the path He chooses for them”

This means I can experience those wonderful spiritual high places by accepting God’s “path” for my life. His path for me might lead me into a valley of despair, but ultimately I will get my mountain top experience. Good will come out of the hardships in my path and journey.

“How deeply we who love the Lord of Love and desire to follow Him long for the power to surmount all difficulties and tests and conflict in life “ ….. “exultant and triumphant like the way gazelles bound up the mountainside, leaping from rock to rock with extraordinary grace.”

“As Christians we know, in theory at least, that in the life of a child of God there are no second causes, that even the most unjust and cruel things, as well as all SEEMINGLY pointless and undeserved sufferings have been PERMITTED by God as a glorious opportunity for us to react to them in such a way that our Lord and Savior is able to produce in us. Little by little, His own lovely character.”

Goodness, this is FULL of ideas and things to ponder and meditate upon!!
Looking at the second quote on this page it mentions a DESIRE to FOLLOW HIM. Dear Reader, following Him requires a commitment. Can you think about agreeing to follow Him wherever He decides to lead you? This will most likely require sacrifice and pain but it will be worth it. He is after all, The Good Shepherd.

It then mentions “…… longing for the power to surmount all difficulties, tests, and conflicts in life.” The Word is full of scriptures confirming that God IS our strength and that He will PROVIDE strength for us.

In the third quote Ms Hurnard mentions not only unjust and cruel things as a means to practice and react in a Godly manner, but also acknowledges that the SEEMINGLY pointless, mundane, and undeserved sufferings are opportunities too. And the fruit of pursuing through these obstacles? We will develop, little by little, His own lovely character.

The High Places of victory and Union with Christ can only be reached by “LEARNING TO ACCEPT, day by day, the actual conditions and tests permitted by God, by a continually repeated laying down of your own will and acceptance of His as it is presented to us in the form of the people with whom we have to live and work, and in the things which happen to us. EVERY ACCEPTANCE OF HIS WILL BECOMES AN ALTAR OF SACRIFICE, and every such surrender and abandonment of ourselves to His will is a means of furthering us on the way to the High Places.”

Accepting the pain and trials God places in your Life Journey is hard but worth it. There will be riches at the end, eternal riches….. the most precious being an intimate relationship with your Creator and Savior.

There is no coincidence when it comes to the people in your life, at work and the family you were birthed into. You may wish you were not associated with anyone at work. You may even be angry for your placement into a dysfunctional family. All I can say here is, I am sorry for your pain but it is what it is, and though some of you have been severely abused, learn from it and move past it. Don’t let bitterness and unforgiveness have victory over you. This is what Corrie Ten Boom did. She forgave her concentration camp guard. It is only the love of Christ that enabled such and act of love. It took strength, the strength promised to us by God.

Dear Reader,
These are not easy things to read or put into practice. Maybe you are not ready. At the very least meditate upon them. If you are in need of strength and comfort, pick up a bible and use the concordance. Look for the key words. Feed yourself with the comfort and promises you will find by looking up Strength and Comfort.

It is only with the LOVE OF GOD that we can follow in His footsteps. He loves us unconditionally. There is nothing you can do that will separate you from the love of Christ.

ROMANS 8:37-39 (NIV)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
