Overcoming Difficult Trials

I like to give “Just Because” gifts. These are presents given to friends and family just because I am thinking of them, and because I want to remind them that they are loved. There are no gifting rules or requirements.

The three Kings brought our Savior gifts. They travelled a long distance and faced danger in order to honor him with their offerings. Faith compelled them into action and earned them a place in the Living Word of God.
“The wise men gave Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh (pronounced murr). The three presents brought foreshadowed the future for Jesus. Gold represented that Jesus would be a king, frankincense, an aromatic gum from trees, used in worship among other uses, and myrrh, an aromatic resin which would later be used to anoint Jesus’ body after the crucifixion.”

If you were to give the Christ child a gift, what would it be? Would you play or sing for him a song? Maybe you would lay down any bitterness, hate, or unforgiveness. Then again, you could bring Him a precious and valuable item, like the three wise men.

Another idea is to lay down an addiction or fear. My grandpa went “COLD TURKEY” one lent and gave up cigarettes. He never smoked one again. We can do all things through Him who gives us strength. You see, if God sees the desire in your heart to lay something down for Him and His glory, He will reciprocate by giving you the strength to accomplish the task. Faith and self-control are gifts of the Spirit. The gifts God has given us will allow you to give Him the gift you want to lay at His feet.

My gift would be my life. I would lay my will down at His feet and say to Him, “Use me as You will and for Your purpose so that You may be glorified.” At least, that is what I would hope I had the courage and devotion to do.

This is what I am trying to do right now in my walk with Christ. Life is a gift. God gave us the gift of eternal life. I want to give back His gift and use it for Him as a thank you.

JOHN 15:13
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

2 TIMOTHY 2:21
Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

LUKE 9:23
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
