NEEDS VS WANTS
I felt convicted when I read this cartoon. I admit I have been a bit of a grumbler as of late. I am sure I have annoyed God by bemoaning all of the materialistic things I have lost this past year due to my brain tumor, recovery, and move to a new state. Yes, some of the things I lost were sentimental items that held memories and can’t ever be replaced. Other things were just beautiful items I liked but don’t really need.
I keep reminding myself of Paul’s success in finding contentment in all situations at all times….. I have a lovely house. Yes, it is older and smaller than the one I left behind in Oregon but it is more than sufficient for my needs. It is at these times that I say to myself, “Look Cheryl, this house is newly painted in just the colors you love. It is so easy to clean and care for that you have time to do other things. Your yard is an open landscape just waiting for your touch and your bathroom is completely remodeled….. Who needs a jetted tub?”
I have parents I adore and they are in good health. My son knows the Lord and is doing well in school. My old friends are loyal and loving, my new friends are kind and growing into true friendships. I have a job with few hours but really good pay. My church is only two minutes from my house and I hear church bells two or more times a day.
I could go on and on and on about my blessings. This is my encouragement to you today. If you find yourself down and frustrated with personal circumstances in your life, start listing your blessings. You will find that they far outweigh your troubles. God will give you EVERYTHING that you NEED…… and SOMETIMES even the things that you want, and not just for Christmas.
PHILLIPPIANS 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus;
1 PETER 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
PHILLIPPIANS 4:11-12 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
