Overcoming Difficult Trials

OUR GOOD SHEPHERD

Image

Experience has taught me that the Shepherd is far more willing to show His sheep the path than the sheep are to follow. He is endlessly merciful, patient, tender, and loving. If we, His stupid and wayward sheep, really want to be led, we will without fail be led. Of that I am sure.  Elisabeth Elliot

Isn’t it wonderful that we have a Shepherd who knows us?  The role of a Shepherd is that of guard and guide.  He cares for His herd and ministers to them.  We, His flock, are under His watchful care.

With a Shepherd, you are allowed to rest and recover from difficult times.  He will watch over you and protect you from dangers.  He will be your eyes when your eyes are unable to see due to the tears they hold.  He will lead you to areas that are safe to feed and drink.  There will be time to read the living Word before He guides you up a another mountain or down a steep decline.  He knows you need strength for your journey.

If we don’t follow Him while under His care, we might end up hungry or lost.  Sheep tend to be wayward and stupid and don’t always like being led. This gets them into dangerous situations.  As His sheep, we know His voice and we need to follow Him when He calls.

If you want to follow the Lord, He will honor your wish.  Without fail He will lead you on a path and personal journey designed specifically for you.  Let Him teach you His ways and lead you to springs of living water so that you will never thirst again.  A willing and obedient heart is an acceptable offering to your God.

JOHN 10:14 (NIV)       I am the good shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me—

JOHN 10:27-28 (NIV)       My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
